Main dealer used incorrect differential fluid

When turning at low speeds, I noticed there was a vibration coming from the (limited slip) diff on my car.

This seemed to start after a service carried out by a main dealer. I questioned the dealer, asking if they had changed the diff fluid and they confirmed they had. After some digging, the dealer admitted to having used the wrong fluid. The car covered about 5000 miles with the wrong fluid in the diff.

My concern that even if the correct fluid is now used, the diff may have been damaged.

Given that the dealer has admitted fault, what would you insist is done?

I appreciate your input - thank you!

The clutches will be contaminated with the wrong oil - I would be arguing for a complete strip down, clean, and new clutches. Make sure you put everything in writing so you have a timeline in case it gets into a fight.

I agree. Best to be on the safe side and, if you have problems with the dealer seeing your post of view, go to Mercedes Head Office in Milton Keynes.

Firstly it’s great they have admitted it, get them to put that in writing I. Any form be it a letter or added to the itemised bill. They usually would never admit this or, try and pass it off as being compatible/fine.

Then ask for the issue to be put right and see what options they offer, if any. It may be they change the fluid and then you may have to go back if the issue still persists. At the same time I would get an independent mechanical engineers report, detailing your issue and their opinion also as this is what adds weight if the resolution gets messy.

Where would one find a mechanical engineer that would write this report?
