A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 1997 W202 C250 TD Estate, I had been looking for an older (98-00) Passat and had been appalled at the cars I had seen, happended to notice the Mercedes on ebay while "searching", I found out some basic things to look for on Honestjohn.co.uk and went to have a look. I was impressed with the way the car looked and drove for the age and mileage 153K, I bought the car and have been able to sort out a few minor problems by searching on this forum :- Fan belt tensioner (the elusive rattle that had me thinking timing chain!!).
The phantom wiper operation ( cleaned switch with WD-40 after removing end cap) now fine I have also lubricated wiper mechanism as advised.
Only problem so far I managed to flatten battery after changing Diesel filter, should have filled with diesel before fitting !! I replaced the plastic hoses after that so I can see if any bubbles appear.

Once again many thanks to members for excellent advice - I am a very happy Mercedes Owner

Can you (or anyone) tell me what size/type of key or socket I will need to remove the fan belt tensioner pivot bolt on my W202 C250 TD estate Without draining the cooling system and removing the radiator it is almost impossible to gauge the size of spline key needed for this job.

Though the work sheets do not always state the size of the bolts. I will have a look in the morning,I can print off the job sheet if you wish
