May 2001 E Class - Comand slot not accepting cd's

I have been told by a merc authorised auto engineer that I need a whole new unit at £2500! - is there any way I can get this problem fixed or maybe buy a cheaper unit elsewhere?

Some of the specialist audio/hifi repair shops can fix these things. They should not need to be replaced as the parts inside them are replaceable.

I would look for one and see about shipping it to them, must be worth a try.

If cds won't go into the slot its probably an electro/mechanical thing adn easily fixed. If it goes in but does nothing then there may be a software glitch. Not sure I would spend £2500 on it. Funny how it waits to get past the warranty......

Thanks - I did take it to a local guy, who had it for a week or so - he sent it to someone else - who told him that only mercedes authorised bods can touch it!
