After just having our Mercedes for only 8 months it looks like we may have to sell it :-(

Like many people we part exchanged our old car and took out a loan for the new one. Whilst I thought my partner was regularly paying off the loan....no, he was spending his money on collecting more model trains. So now we owe more than the car is worth and I could shoot him.

Men pffffft

you may need to get permission from the finance company before you can sell, might be easier getting rid of your partner:eek: .....................

Well we have one of those mortgage reserve accounts, they don't care what you use the money for as long as they get it back. The down side is that they don't set out a minimum monthly payment for the loan, so it's easy for people to lose track of what they owe I guess, well it is for my partner :(

Na, stick the trains on eBay and plough the money back into the mortgage.

They are worth a fortune, we has the most amazing 'O' Gauge layout with some very expensive locos and he actually said that his trains are more important than the car, probably more important than me too

Erm, I'm not sure what to say to that, probably because I just don't understand it (i.e. the obsession with a train set). Good luck sorting it out.

Hello Lyn, does this mean that we are going to loose the nice soft touch that you bring to this forum, I had a lyn once for 17 years, she was from Shefield and small, maybe all Lyn's are small, but now lives near you. Re Trains you must know Frank Lambert just around the corner from you in Eastbury Road, he has a huge collection and is making 4 x 1/8th scale steam locos.
What are we going to do without you:sad:

I can't comment - being as I'm the guy who's just spent the best part of a grand on a model steam engine - it must be boys and toys :).

As with everything, it is a case of priorities and if your hobbies start to take money from the family budget or mean you don't pay other bills then it's time to rein in the spending for a while.

You need to give him a stiff talking to however my guess is that if he's that passionate about the trains then some of that enthusiasm must have rubbed off on you as well.

Keep the car, keep the trains and sacrifice the summer holiday or some other yet to be paid for luxury - just keep him away from steam/rail/model engineering events :)

Good luck

no - the rose engine is for wood turning although it could be used for making decorative stuff and it will be powered by an electric motor.

The steam stuff is all 5/8ths scale - about 13" long for a traction engine, they only run at 15psi so don't have enough power to run something as complex as that.

I went to the Blandford Steam rally in Oct, that was some show. How those people get those huge things into mint condition and still use them. Most of the engines were working all day. That was a good day out.

Is this not just typical Littlebrooklyn. You seek just a little deserved sympathy and your thread degenerates into a discussion on ****** toy trains!!
