I have spoken to MB and they can offer another 12 months warranty for £879. However they must have a multi point service check done at MB which is £125+ vat. Total in all if this comes out ok is £1,000 !!!.
Is this good value on a clk 320 AvGar auto with 5 service history, last one done at 96700, in May 07.
Car is now at 97270. miles - Car reg 30/4/04. Car being bought for £13,500
Had a RAC inspection done yesterday and came out ok.

Any other guys had this multi point check and got an extra 12 months MB warranty???

The check is normal. They want to ensure you aren't buying the warranty because there is a problem. Fair enough really. This is why I bought mine when the car was already covered. Sadly not an option for you.

I decided against on my last one (MB warranty had already expired) as the cost is a lot for 12 months cover and that is assuming they don't find anything during the inspection which in itself is unlikely. I always remember BMW suggesting we replace the starter motor on my Mum's 318 at 4 years old, as it was going to give probems. We finally sold the car at 14 years old - and in that time the starter always worked perfectly.

So, you could end up fixing something that is really ok (at dealer prices), paying for the inspection and then again for the warranty. Could easly become a very expensive years cover!

I assume the dealer isn't the one selling the car then. If he is, he should be able to do something with that cost.
That aside, the dealers are more competetive these days so its worth ringing round and playing one against the other. You should be able to get the cost of the inspection down though whether you'll get a discount on the warranty I can't say.

Thanks for the quick reply. Booked the car in for the multi check sat am. They said it should only take 1 hour max. Ageed that it needs the check first, however it just had a MB service in May 07 and had only done 400 since last service.
Comes down to peace of mind as do not want to take out a warranty with AA, RAC, Warranty Direct etc which is about £475 for 1 year and only covers certain problems.
It may be worth doing the warranty for 1 year with MB and seeing what happens after 12 months.
The wife will only do about 6,000 miles max per year and mostly in town driving etc..
Any other info I need just post..Many thanks for your help..

Ring round.
£875 strikes me as a lot. As earlier, I paid around £200 less. Ok, that was 2 years ago but even then.
Also, have you asked about service plus?
I seem to remember MB wanting around £90 per month from me for 25k pa so at 6k pa it should be less than £875.
Then again, I don't know what loading 97k carries.

The problem is, the car is fine. It's the old quandry. If you do cover it, you won't need it. If you don't, Sods law decrees, you will need a gearbox!
