You can buy the alloy pressed caps for 50p each from a main dealer. Should come as standard at that price!

The alloy ones should not be used on the brass valve stems due to the voltage difference, they corrode onto the valves with disastrous results

Not in my experience - I've had them on both SLs and even Porsche make the same ones.

There have been many postings on this subject,, I had to buy a new valve monitor for mine at £80 as the cap was seized solid on one, and I used a hacksaw on the others.

A factor of living near the coast maybe?

If you check your tyres pressures regularly then I wouldn't have thought there's be an issue. Similar to wheel bolts seizing if left unchecked for lengthy periods.

Having valve pressure monitors you do not have to check. My car was not near the sea in its last life, there are many threads and warnings on this subject

Well there's your answer Malcolm ;).

I know they're very popular on MBClub too - just don't buy them from eBay as they are twice the dealer cost!

I still don't have a problem recommending them from my experience - Caveat Emptor on this one!
