wuz away from home for a week...when returned my mb battery was flat..jump started it..had 2 malfunctions (ABS and BAP) which were rectified by moving steering lock to lock..... NOW THE PROBLEM STARTS FROM HERE..having no malfunctions on the cluster, i took it for a drive...only then i realised that my MB got stuck in its second gear (showing D in the gear display on cluster)...the gear was locked in D eventhough i tried to change it manually by stick(+ / -)..but no sign of gear change....even drove it for 10 miles but the problem persists...as suggested in the forum i disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to reset the gearbox memory but the problem was still there.....PLEASE HELP ME URGENTLY!!!!!!!!

You can only jump start MB's following a special guide lines, you have now got to check that your ECU's are getting 12volt by checking the Over voltage relay.

My 210 has been jump started three times. Once by me, once by an RAC man and once in Germany by an ADAC (equivalent AA) man. Didn't do anything special and it all worked just fine.

What are these guidelines and where are they specified? Don't think there is anything in the handbook.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Chap in the indie I took mine for repair also said that I needed special jump leads, to avoid damaging the ECU.

You've been lucky!

Make sure all electrics are switched off. Connect the positive terminals of the batteries. Connect one end of negative to donor battery and the other end to a suitable earth on the car (NOT the battery) - one of the boot/tailgate lock mounting bolts is ideal. Start the engine and run at idle speed, then switch ON all your electrics, lights, r/w demister, heater blower, before disconnecting the batteries in the reverse order of connection. Turn off electrics.
