Please can anyone help us old girls out.I have an E220 Diesel 2001 which is almost always in Limp mode.Firstly fitted a new Maf sensor, then a new Intercooler, then a new front pipe and Cat and all this has made no difference. Now told a new Inlet Manifold is needed.I've located a nearly new one(because after all this work I can't afford a new one)But the one I've got is from a C220 2002/3,I've been assured that it will fit.Does anyone know if this is so.Any other suggestions as to my problem would be appreciated.

Wowsers! Sounds expensive!

You havent said what the symptoms are for the car to be in limp mode? Is it like that from start? or does it drive ok and then pop into limp mode? does the engine sound as it should? does the exhaust sound as it should? who did the replacement work with the cat? were both cats replaced, if so were they new units? and replaced at the same time? etc etc etc Whats the mileage on the car? history?

Hi,I should have given more info originally. The mileage is high,207000.I've had the car for about 20 months, but no service history as it was a snatch back. Initially she was perfect, then started to smoke,I was told this was unburnt diesel also this is when it started to go into limp mode under load, after turning off and restarting was ok.The maf sensor and the cracked intercooler were replaced(by an independant mechanic)and the smoke problem was cured and ran not too bad for a while but then lapsed back into limp mode situation.Only the front pipe and cat have been changed but the mechanic spotted the butterflies on the Inlet manifold were broken. So far all new parts have been used, only the Inlet manifold which has not yet been fitted is secondhand. When poodleling around it sounds fine but mostly no kickdown, and have to use tiptronic to negotiate hills.

I think you need to find out what the error codes are otherwise you may be changing the wrong parts for a long time. The inlet manifold could put the car in limp mode if it is filled with soot or split etc and so is the EGR valve. I think you should get this properly diagnosed before spending more money.

Or the mid section of the exhaust?

You say you have changed the front end of the exhaust - I assume this is the large unit off the manifold? Normally this precat breaks up and subsequntly blocks the main cat under the vehicle... It may be that this is why the car is entering limp mode too?

I doubt that the build up of soot in the manifold would be so much as to cause pressure build up?

Here's the exhaust system. Item 70 is the Cat http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=210026&M=613%2E961&GA=722%2E626&CT=F&cat=66G&SID=49&SGR=285&SGN=04
