My trusty megane i may sell. Been using the merc a lot lately.

Changed the trackrod end ball joint a week ago myself and inspected the 14 month old GKN replacement driveshaft - CV joint has worn a lot and GSF agreed to sell me a replacement at cost price - i still need to pay the labour costs to replace! around £160 all in

£85 plus vat driveshaft and around £60 labour - work at Warwickshire County Council and use their workshop

I would take the CVJ back to GKN - they would be mortified to hear that there had been significant wear in 14 months. Most CVJs outlive the car and there is virtually no "aftermarket" in them, save for ultra high mileage smaller cars (Peugeot 205 diesels) and then usually after 6 figure mileages.

I know GKN don't retail them, but if you contact their Driveline Division I think they would take an interest.

Citroen AXs eat driveshafts like you wouldnt believe, especially if they are driven hard.

i think the single thing that can knacker CV joints is compressive shock. i'm wondering if one of mine is going to start giving me trouble after bumping a kerb sideways in the snow in January.
