I got stuck in stop & go traffic and both of my tail light lenses melted to the brake light bulb. Dealer told me that was too bad since my warranty expired...by 2,000 miles. Very disappointed. Anyone else had this problem?

sorry to hear about this.

were you using 21 watts bulbs in the brake lights?(these are the correct spec for the brakes)

were the bulbs touching the inside of the plastic lenses prior to them melting?.

i have noticed that the bulbs do get hot especially in prolonged periods of traffic.

this is a most unusual story .

Do you mean the light lenses melted or the back plate and connector melted.
If the backplate melted it's due to bad connections but if the lenses melted and the car has the correct bulbs fitted it's a design fault and fire risk.
You should contact MB at Milton Keynes as this should be a recall situation. If you get no joy contact your local MOT Vehicle Inspectorate.

I've had 3 brake light bulbs burn out(black as charcoal when i look at 'em) in the past month and a half, and they do get warm!!

am sure am using 21w bulbs, but am getting this situation looked at by Merc today.

Will let you know what they think the problem is.

Stansted, manning anti aircraft guns.
Sounds like either too powerful blubs, incorrect fitting or faulty lamp lens'.

If the vehicle is newish, in the case of the latter I'd contact MB themselves as they may replace the parts as a gesture of goodwill.

SOUNDS LIKE THE BULB WATTS ARE TOO HIGH TO ME.......
BUT IF THAT IS THE CASE YOU SHOULD HAVE THE BULB FAILURE LIGHT COME ON,ON THE DASH??????

THE ONLY BULBS YOU SHOULD REPLACE THE ORIGINAL ONES WITH IS PHILLIPS OR OSRAM,NOT THE CHEAP SH1T FROM AUTO SPARES PLACES.

THESE ARE FACTORY SPEC FITMENT.........

THE HEADLAMP BULBS,SHOULD ONLY USE PHILLIPS,AS THEY ARE THE ONLY BULB MANUFACTURER TO USE CRYSTAL CUT GLASS,THEY USE LESS HEAT AND DONT BURN THE FRONT PLASTIC HEADLAMPS,THROUGH ULTRA VIOLET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK

P.S I DONT WORK FOR PHILLIPS BY THE WAY

Maybe this is silly...

Could the bulbs be fitted incorrectly? i.e. the brake lights are on all the time??? I have seen this done on fords (yuk) with a similar result.

Happy Christmas All!!!!
