True, but when Mercedes release statistics saying 56mpg, and honestjohn website has an average of 46 iirc, you can imagine my shock at seeing 35. My wife travels 9 miles to Salisbury on an A road so not exactly just in town.

That's your answer then. Tell her to go via Bristol on the M4 and your mpg will improve dramatically. In 9 miles the engine won't even have warmed up. And you are likely to be doing massive damage to the DPF.

I will have to sort the wife out.....

...and also have a word about her driving style.

It’s not her driving style. It’s the route she’s having to take and it’s attendant traffic conditions, thus the driving style that’s being forced onto her.

I have an E220 Bluetec. Same powertrain and similar platform to your GLC. My old commute could return 33mpg and no more than a 30mph average. Lots of short 60mph stretches with junctions or sharp bends, so accelerating and braking. Now I’ve moved, my commute is longer but has more of a steady run, longer stretches at 60-70mph without braking. Mpg has increased to 45 and average speed to 40mph but the fuel bill is the same.

Last Clio I had, had an average of 24mpg. But then it was the ClioSport 172. :p:p

I still miss it, it was awesome.

I had a V6 Clio (it's how I got the name V6Matty), mpg was about 14 most of the time but on fun days round the peak district I'd be happy to see 9mpg but what a hoot I'd have, brilliant go kart of a car wish I'd never sold it.

Only time I saw south of 9mpg (for genuine reasons, not a fuel leak) was in a Sierra Cosworth where I could literally watch the fuel needle drop due to the amount it was drinking! Impressive an a Clio
