I've just bought a 1992 300CE Sportline and have no idea how to find out whether its a 12V or a 24V - any info welcome!

Also, I would quite like to know some official fuel and peformance figures for the car.

I noticed when I bought it (haven't picked it up yet) that the front seats hinge releases automatically when the doors are opened. What then are the little buttons for on the sides of the seats?

Thanks,

Bruiser

I think what Bruiser is asking is how to find out whether his car is a 12 valve or a 24 valve cylinder head. According to Parkers Price Guide the 300 CE with 188bhp was launched in October 1987 with a 4 speed Auto box. The 300 CE-24 with 230bhp was launched in October 1989 with a 5 speed Auto box.

A 300CE-24 will be badged on the boot lid as "300CE-24". A 12v will be badged as "300CE"

The little buttons are for the rear seat passengers to escape the car when the driver gets out and leaves the doors shut with the engine running. They therefore get little use.

5 speed auto was an option, not a standard fit.

when you find out which model you have I can let you know the performance figures etc

Looking at the first 6 numbers on the VIN the 124050 is 12 valve, the 124061 and 12481 are 24 valve.
