merc s class running bad 320cdi auto 2001

hi everyone just had car into garage with which i thought was a gearbox problem anyway they hooked it up to the computer it came back with mass air flow switch (the origanal prob was when driving at say 50mph when i put foot down the auto box would not kick down) i was told this switch would be the main cause of this? so they replaced it with an after market one but the problem till goes on i was told by a specialist that with mercs i would need to get an origanal part because the car rejects the after market type pls could anybody shine some light on this before moer money could be poss wasted :confused
many thanks

Hello and welcome bricky to the forum, yes the odd imported MAF filters do not work or last well, the cheapest place is from a Bosch service center at £147

The Maf for the 320 cdi from Mb is only around £60 and it really will improve the car no end ... and i think your Maf is actually Pierburg and not bosch ring Mb parts with the chassis no and price it..

had a pierberg mas fitted today still problem with car it won,t change down throu gearbox(well it does for a while then won't) but when you switch cars engine off and restart the car it works again for a while
Q does the cars diagnostic need resetting so the malfunction will be taken off so car will function properly?
many thanks

No the MAF should auto reset on restart, the fault will still be logged tho, have you had your battery voltage checked

Yes they do there is a lever under the manifold and you can get someone to rev the car and check if its working..

You will see the EGR valve actuator just behind the fuel filter bolted onto the inlet manifold ..it has two vacuum pipes fitted to it..remove the three torx screws ..a tiny bit fiddly.. and remove the actuator..now liberally sparay as much wd40, ts10 or whatever freeing oil u have into the manifold opening let it sit for ten mins and same again refit the actuator valve and start the car up ..clouds of smoke and freedom..I hope..

turned the car off and waited for a while it then reset itself ,the egr valve removed that very choched up in the side with 2 vac pipes sparyed wd in the other side but there is a valve inside in moves freely but the prob lies with linkage underneath manifold it keeps popping off when been for quick drive and seems to be sticking cant see how to get inside to free it sprayed the linkage and put together it moves when being revved but dont know weather it should move all the way when on full revs ?so think new linkage mybe the way forward looks like a nightmare to do, is this mb part only?and is it expensive? many thanks

Sorry the EGR valve must sit in the exhaust, sure the outlet feed back into the inlet

Hissing noise would point to the turbo hose being split or even the intercooler, you have to remove the lower front undertray to have a look at the hose/intercooler..chock the wheels and make sure the car is in park and get someone to rev the engine whilst you check where the hissing is coming from

Check this link for the hose and intercooler
