MERCEDES 190E Exhaust Problem

Can anyone help?
I have noticed a clump of white fiberglass strands poking out of the exhaust on my 1992 190E everything seems to be working fine and I can't hear any extra exhaust noise. Any advice on what this is and what to do about it would be a big help.

The insides of the silencer are falling apart.

If you don't lose any performance and don't notice any excessive noise, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
