Hi there,

I found your forum using google.

I have an E-Reg Mercedes 250D and my indicators have suddenly stopped working. The hazard lights are still working.

I popped open the fuse box and found that the fuse was broken, I didn't have a spare so I used one from a different circuit and the indicators still don't work.

What could be wrong?

Someone told me that it might be a relay that has gone.

same thing happened to me on a 190D. turned out to be the contacts on the hazard switch. popped it out, cleaned the contacts, problem gone. worth a try.

Relay

Hi,

Assuming that your 250D is a 124 model, AFAIK the indicator lights are controlled by a relay located in the fuse box. If I'm not mistaken, they also control some of the other exterior lights as well. It may be worth having a look at, or if you can find a 'spare' one to try out and see if it resolves your problem.

Ok get ready to grimace.

I managed to get four of the six retaining screws out of the fuse box lid.

Unfortunately, the last 2 screws appear to have been cross threaded or overtightened and I have made a mess of the heads of the screws and can no longer get a screwdriver into them, also I tried chiselling the head off one of the screws with a slot head screwdriver and have damaged a smal part of the lid any tips on how to get these screws out now?

I am considering chiselling a new groove into the screwheads to get them out, good idea or not?

BTW it is a series 124, in reply to the question asked.

there are no screws on my W124 ( 1989) fusebox, there's a clip that secures the front, you flip it back and it opens up,

fuse box located in the back left of the engine bay as you look in from the front. front box of the two.

To get to the relays you have to remove the fusebox cover completely. You only unclip the lid if you just want to change fuses.
