Hello, do the mercedes 3 year warranty cover everything apart from the expected wear and tear on brakes/tyres/etc?

reason I ask this question is that a friend was saying that Fords 2 and 3rd year warranty is not the same as the 1st years guarantee.

I've read the mercedes manual/booklet and non the wiser.
Thanks.

I think you have almost answered your own question here, and I think Ford will be saying the same as MB. Certain items are considered as consumables (service items) and will have limited cover, examples include tyres and brakes. Other items should be considered as non wearing and last "forever", an example of this is that Landrover replaced the dash trim on some vehicles a couple of years ago because they cracked in the sun - hardly a hazard of excess driving in the UK.
The only probem comes when you think that an item shouldn't fail and they think it is a service item, and this could be were your friend has got the idea that the Ford warranty differs in year 2 and 3. Lots of service items are convered by goodwill in year one and not afterwards. An example here could be a clutch. Most drivers will make a clutch last for ever, but thats only because they drive properly, get a bad driver and they can burn it out in weeks, but a clutch is really a service item. Turn up at the dealers with a six month old car and 5000 miles on the clock and you have a warranty claim, turn up at 33 months and 50000 miles and you have a large bill.

if you have specific items your worried about, just ask service reception, they will know exactly what they can get you on warranty and what they cant.

Mark.

Exhaust......4000 miles from new.....split open along the seam, bad welding along the joint...."wear and tear"!!!! Replace exhaust 6 times a year!!!

Failed rear suspension at 23,000 miles......"wear and tear"...not even seen by Mercedes main dealer despite spewing hydraulic fluid all over the place..wow, replace rear suspension every year at a grand a time.

Knock at the front end, quite pronounced......."that's normal, they all do it"!!!

My teachers in school never called me a gobs***e but Mercedes sure tried to.

You need to watch what is to be called wear and tear. I am sure with Mercedes a clutch at 5,000 is wear and tear. However brake disks can need replacement early since the newer types of friction material are being used seem to cause more wear/heat distortion. I see disks being replaced at 40k. Peugeot had them replaced at about 60k but Merc still has originals at 92.

We had a Ford Fiesta here, was 1994, a new one....three clutches in 12,000 miles, eventually some guy [assessor] came in and actually said it was women drivers, they [women] all do that. Explosion, until I found 4 other Fiestas registered at the same time and with same problem....Eventually asked some questions, on paper, [1] what was the thickness of the clutch plate/extent of wear [2] did anyone check the engine/gearbox alignment [3] did anyone check for crankshaft seals........[4] how come all the failing clutches are being fitted by the one garage.... suddenly all protests dried up and the car was bought back.. No more trouble with clutches from any of the drivers after they got rid of those Fiestas...

Thanks

The knock from the front passenger side usually - yes all/most of them do it - repalcing the thing on top of shock and link arm does the trick - all warranty work
