Anyone know how to take out the slack in the steering wheel for an 82 300cd turbo? There is a lot of play in the steering wheel and its "driving" me nuts.

Well on my '87 300TE there is a pre-tensioning nut on the top of the steering box hidden behind the heatshield. That does the job and is common to all steering box assemblies I've seen (not just Merc). It's a 20 minute job with heatshield and assuming you have allen key and (I think) 17 MM spanner, or a 5 minute job if the heatshield's off.

The trick is that to remove slack you actually wind the bolt out, not in. I did it the other way and had a very alarming drive when I tested it.
