Hard to help when we can't hear the noise.
Also a bit more detail would be useful
Does it happen when accelerating, braking, cornering, on bumps, etc etc...
However... A check of the rear subframe, mounts, shocks and suspension arms probably wouldn't go amiss.
If it's a rattling noise on rough surfaces check antiroll bar mounts and links.

On my CLS350 both my intermediate exhaust brackets broke off thanks to rust (even with <30k miles) , maybe worth while getting under the rear of the car for a proper look.

Get an assistant to wiggle the tailpipes whilst you have a look and listen under the car, you can see them on this eBay listing , one has even conveniently rusted off :

Answers a lot right there, did they check the car over.

Is there a better garage near you.

Suspennsion/mount faults/tracking noises can be hard to pinpoint and some garages just say its fine as they dont want the job - too much searching for little return.

That was the case with a Merc a lad at work owned, the exhaust was stainless but the hangers were mild steel

As above, often times these noises can be hard to pinpoint. I recently had a similar noise and all suspension components looked as good as new. The problem turned out to be defective shock absorbers - internal. So all appeared ok on visual inspection and the only reason this was diagnosed was because the tech had experienced the problem before. New shocks and problem solved.

Kwikfit, or any other non specialist would have found this extremely difficult to diagnose.

Used to have a C63...
Was about to suggest checking springs, as they have a habit of becoming a bit saggy on the 219s... then breaking.

Good that it's sorted.
