I have had the car for s few weeks now and still checking it over and I have the feeling it had stood for a while.Checking the brakes,I made sure the calipers were all free and the brakes are now really solid. However when the engine is started the pedal goes quite a way down to the floor,it doesn`t seem to happen every time but it`s there.Any advice please Len

as above , something vacuum related , however in the past I have had issues with certain MB cars where the pedal went soft after brake work

I have bled the brakes except the master cylinder, ran out of time today. The pedal is excellent when the engine is off but as soon as it starts the pedal goes a long way down.If this is so,then the vacuum system must be working?

Iv`e removed the vacuum pipe from the servo started the engine and there is a good vacuum if I place my finger over the pipe.I tried blowing down the pipe and it is possible with no resistance, shouldn`t there be a one way valve so you shouldn`t be able to do that.Len

Sorry, of course you should be able to blow down the pipe this is how the vacuum is made.I tried sucking the pipe and the one way valve seems to work. The pedal is excellent little movement and solid, but when the engine is started the pedal still goes nearly to the floor Len
