I'm attracted by the Mercedes A180. The sort of car I imagine retired people tend to buy and therefore I presume would be well looked after have a reasonably low mileage.
I'm interested in a 2016/18 totally unmodified auto/ diesel or petrol (Milano red) and would appreciate so feedback i what to look out for in terms of weakness and strengths and desirable features they possess as they m0ve up the spec range.. I presume they all have SatNav and cruise control in this day and age.

Hello and welcome,

the A-Class you’re looking at is driven a lot by young professionals (or those wishing they were…)
The facelift W177 from 2018 is the better car in many ways to the W176 (less water leaks and better tech - especially in Premium Plus)
I’d very much recommend petrol rather than diesel and always auto.

Sold - 2021 CLA 35 Premium.
I second what Blobcat said...the 2018 W177 is a far superior car and a much nicer place to sit if your budget will allow.
Milano red is a Honda colour so I believe you mean Jupiter red.
While on the subject of colour Jupiter red was discontinued by Mercedes towards end of 2019 due to many owners having problems with lacquer peeling.

Thanks you much appreciated. You're right I have Milano red on my Civic. Moving from my Civic would be a wrench.

One further question. Petrol and diesels - are they belt or chain drive cambelts?.

Petrol models do seem to have less problems with DPFs

Just got a quote from my own insurer. Honda insurance is expensive. Cover for a A180 SE (W177) (2018) was £600.00 more than my Civic, which is twice what I am paying at the moment..

I'm not rushing into it for the time being.

Always always shop around, your current insurance company may very well apply a premium for reasons best known to themselves - all part of the insurance money making machine unfortunately

Insurance is a lottery, shop around. I drove a v12 around at 200 a Yr. My ml slug is 360 odd. I will be looking at cover as a factor in my next choice
5000 miles in my agreed value NG is under 100 pounds. Another reason to go classic.

I had an Audi TT about 4 years ago and the insurance was about £200.00 less than the Honda Civic. Very difficult to predict.

With the cost of insurance being to high they must consequentially be a difficult car to sell second hand

Chain

They’re not, very popular car secondhand as can be seen by the prices

Thanks useful to know. At least the engine parts should be reasonably priced

They still have an MB part number on them and are supplied through main dealer
