Hi
As the owner of a 1998 w210 E240 I am aware of the rust problems that haunt this model. but is this rusting a general problem across the whole range between 1996ish and 2002ish or are some models better/worse than others.Mine seems to be better than a lot of 210s so I'm thinking of changing it while it's still OK.
My problem is what do I buy? to be honest post 2002 will be stretching my budget(I never have finance on a car) and I'm wondering if I may be better to buy an earlier pre 1996 car with a good history.I do around 5k a year and am happy to give up economy for a bit of style and comfort.
your thoughts and advice will be most welcome.
Cheers Ian

If you're happy with your car, I' stick with it.

If it was going to rust badly, with would have done by now.

I agree totally.Have one of the Indies on this site give it a healthcheck for you and your peace of mind.(Olly@PCS did mine).
The 210 is a fine car and worth keeping if it is given the all clear.

Yours is a nice car Ian, and I would reflect what others have said - if it has not rusted yet, it is unlikely to rush to catch up now. Malcolm has seen immaculate 210s like yours in the recent past, so they do exist and I believe they are worth cherishing.

Now all you need to do is work out where the corners are!

I would keep it and give it a good waxoiling all over including under the door and all area's where rust can attack these cars,,a far cheaper alternative

OK here the excuse
My drive is 2 feet wider than my car,the road that I reverse onto from my drive is 2 feet narrower than the length of my car, there are walls to the front, walls to the side, and walls to the rear..in fact this excuse is a load of walls!! Oops

The 210 suffers from a design flaw creating a water trap between the sump cover and subframe surely, or is that the W211? I've read posts on this forum
stating that the corrosion was so bad as to warrent a replacement subframe.
That plus a lot of surface cosmetic rust would make me get rid I think.
When you say that there are good examples around.....have they been resprayed?
Mine looks good at the moment, but I've spent a fortune on paint thats only garunteed for three years max' by the way!
