Just thought I would share this with the forum ....

http://www.carpages.co.uk/mercedes_benz/mercedes-benz-scrappage-scheme-27-04-09.asp

Is this MB finally showing its green credentials? or simply a sign of the car industries present state?

Dropping new car sales is effecting all car manufactures and I suppose this may be a way of drumming up new business... If anybody is interested they can register their interest in the scheme with a dealer in person or with MB online - best of luck .

99% of people who can afford the new mercs do not give a jot for the scrapping scheme, they know they can get far more discount for cash, or as in many casses the company car scheme comes in. mercedes want it both ways, you cannot as per porsche make out your cars last for ever and then jump on the political band waggon for scapping perfectly good cars, most are owned by older people covering 2,000 miles / yr. not your modern business man doing 50,000 / yr, so polution is propoganda, making new cars makes much more polution. i want people to have jobs, but it is pointless trying to make people have new cars etc. which they do not need, and in most casses, cannot afford. in my world people would be encouraged to look after the cars they have and make large reductions on new car production. most cities and large towns throughout the developed world are just car parks, the worst example being the m25 and m6 motorways, you cannot move.herbiemercman.

Herbiemercman, as once uttered by a famous American President: "There you go again". You might want to consider breaking up your missive's into short divided paragraphs?

It would make the reading of your tomes' so much easier to read. With much more enjoyment by the reader. Just a suggestion.

C'mon, be fair. I don't know who Herbiemercman is and this is the first comment from him that I've read and can say that if you could only stop sneering and step back a moment and THINK about the underlying facts in his message, you will find that there is a lot of sense in what he says. So, stop TRYING to be clever with words and actually BE clever and try to improve your ability to read long sentences - You might even enjoy it yourself!

Not everyone can be a literary genius like you think you are, but that doesn't mean that they do not have common sense views. Good luck with the old reading practice. Just a suggestion.

Who said I was a literary genius?? I will admit that I paid attention in English class. My observation was only to make it easier to read . . . I am blind in one eye, and have 20/200 in the other. If you interpreted my comments as SNEERING, I apologize.:eek:

This is an ill thought-through scheme designed to give a bit of positive spin to this lame-duck government who only quack when they think there is a chance of some votes.

Sorry for posting such a long sentence.

back to the thread:-

Totally agree with motormouthman (only joking hahaha). I will never buy a brand new car as the depreciation in the first three years is as bad as the Income Tax and National Insurance that this country hits you for.

You buy the car with purchase tax and VAT added.
Add fuel with its duty and VAT.
Insurance with added tax.
Road Fund Licence (oh its another tax).

Then your 34K E-Class loses half its value within 2 years (or whatever other car you think of). Yes cash may be king and in the current climate the deals are out there to be had but why trade in a perfectly usable car to be crushed and not re-cycled just because the government tells you to take up their offer?
