320 CLK Coupe
Hi I'm looking to buy my first Mercedes (i'm a bmw owner).

Im looking at maybe buying a Mercedes-Benz CLK320 3.2 Automatic Elegance Coupe. Is there any negatives in buying this model? Is there things to look out for when inspecting one?

If anybody could give me any pointers It would be appreciated.

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
Not really.

The Elegance is more "luxury" and the Avantgarde more "sporty" - many say the Avantgarde is the one to buy, but I like both.

If you do a lot of miles get it LPG converted - I did with my old one, and it made the car SO much cheaper to run without any negatives at all.

Only worth it if you do more than 30k miles in it during your ownership.

ive that model year 2000, great car allround, mines has just turned 130k, and going like a train, just look out for signs of rust on the arches and the bootlid keyhole, try get one with a service history, but your probably better changing the oil and filters and the gearbox oil and filter when you get it, to be sure to be sure

I'm looking at a X plate at the moment.

Thanks for you pointers regarding wheel arch rust.

My only fear is the auto box, does this model have a well known issue?
Or can I sleep soundly at night :)

Sorry to steal your post, but is there any advantages and disadvantages of buying a 2001 Mercedes 200k coupe?

Cheers

The 722.6 box is very good and that should be the last of any worries

The gearbox on that car will be very robust. Sure there are some small niggles that are fairly easy to sort but in general a oil and filter change should be your only major event.

The 722.6 is a very robust transmission.

Due to age, the rear backplates will be nearing the end of their life, unless they have already been done. Expensive replacement, but worth it

I believe they are the mounting plates behind the rear brakes
