1996 500sl r129 engine problems and gearbox
. It used to have a cranking delay as i would have to turn the engine 10 times then pray for the 11 turn to be the start of the engine.
Something the battery would run out while I was still struggling so I would take a battery charger and plug it in and crank while on recharge
After some 2 to 3 months of non moving it won't start anymore

Has parked ever since(

it is, I would probably replace the orange indicator lens with clear one too..

@Draco, I would start with the distributor caps, leads and plugs along with a good battery then get some diagnostics if that doesn’t get it running nicely

Sounds like a failing ignition switch.

1996 won't have distributors.
It'll be coil on plug at that age.

That said it doesn't look like a 1996.
Looks more like a 94 or earlier.
Those orange lenses and the three side vent slots are pre-1996.
