Welcome to the forum

The gearboxes were supposedly filled for life when they were built, but Mercedes soon changed their minds when the warranty claims came in.
I had a V220CDI and changed the oil every 60k and it never gave me any problems. You need to drop the gearbox sump and also change the filter whilst your at it.

What do you mean "no light on the dashboard coming on"?
