Hi My Mercedes C class 2008 has leaking Rear Brake pipes due to corrosion (and the front ones have started to corrode) I have been quoted 1k to fix this, does anyone know if this is too much as seems quite a lot from an independent MB garage

Thanks in advance for any replies.

That's one heck of a lot of money. I believe some MB's need to have the rear subframe dropped or removed to do the replacement but I'm unsure if that applies in your case. Even so l think that's a heck of a price. I know a good indy in Walsall (ACMS Mercedes) and it might be worth asking them. Good luck.

That's a monumental price. I had them done on my E class coupe for £380. The pipe is literally pennies think it was about £25 in total and then just the labour and fluid. Took the garage i used just under 5 hours and he isn't a Mercedes specialist . Definitely get a better quote.

Its actually in penrith good few hours from Birmingham. You'll get a better price elsewhere though. Problem with these cars as the e coupe and c class and very simular is the brake pipes sit in water from the undertray. I'd say you could be looking at around 500 for the job depending on labour charge.

Sounds like a quote that says the garage don't want the job ;)

Looks like the brake fluid light has come on now and I saw a leak under my car yesterday onto the road. The strange thing is that none of this happened before I took the car in for a service , I dont really drive the car much anyway as I work from home. I will need to look around at other garages or see if the quote can be lowered at the current garage then probably get a tow truck to take it to a garage as I dont want to risk a brake failure

As already said above, the quote for £1k says they don't want the job. You're right not to drive it in its current state.

Depends where the corrosion is. Some places will cut out and braze a new part in. If for eg the corrosion is in a silly place over and around a fuel tank and all over the pipes then they might change the whole lot.
Any good garage can do the job so if i was you i would google or so to find a well reviewed garage near you and be done with it.
You certainly do not want to be driving with leaking brake lines searching garage after garage. Safety first!

I have had a few local quotes for around just under £300.
