I'm not saying they're bad remappers , but it is lying if they claim a 48 bhp increase when it actually gained 25 bhp .

GAD don't do that , they claim the increase from stock dyno run to best modified dyno run .

    For 3 main reasons:

    Emissions
    Fuel economy
Political reasons (marketing, model ranges etc ) EG there maybe 3 version of the same engine in 3 trims that have 3 different power levels, all identical apart from mapping, VW TDI's are common for this.

ok. so one of the likely downsides is less mpg or the rpm at which best economy will be will likely shift ?

Yes I understand the reasons for posting but I don't like the idea of other tuners getting dragged into a debate

    Many thanks

Surely if you get a reputable remap by someone who is looking at you current engine performance in "real time" and seeing if the engine mapping can be improved, you are helping the car not punishing it (regardless of power gains)?

True, but a map can be easily pushed with very little effort by someone not so experienced

On a side note, as you know, a chassis dyno is used for before and after gains and is not able to provide a 100 accurate representation of engine power. They should only be used as such.

We also don't know the situation with the graph posted, if the car had a dpf and cat removed or if it was a manual with no torque limiters etc!

Regardless, we work with road rage performance frequently and they are good guys over there. We use their dyno quite a bit and its WHP figures are pretty accurate.

I don't feel as though we are negatively reflecting the numbers or work the other tuner has posted on their site, just providing it as an alternative set of numbers.

    Well, yes and no.

Primarily its emissions, to meet emissions (Mainly NoX output and particulates) the injection timing has to be set to an ideal level. This injection timing is a compromise. By advancing the timing you get more power but A LOT more NoX production, so manufacturers have to abide by this.

That, along with other things like rail pressures etc, dictate the efficiency, so by mapping, we can increase efficiency and increase power, therefore reducing fuel consumption, at the same or higher power levels.

As the manufactures must meet emissions targets, and also must have the vehicles run in +50 and -40 temperatures, the mapping etc must be setup to accommodate the wide array of environmental factors, fuel quality, poor maintenance etc.

starting to get you, does that imply that one needs to dump the dpf and nox kit to get full benefit of a remap ? as more nox is surely going to trouble both? and does a remap involve changing rail pressures..

Not always on modern DPF materials are very efficient as far as gas flow. Increases in rail pressure is what will ultimately increase nox output

    Many thanks

Hard to say really depends on lots of models etc.... But early ones if we took 2007 as an example and compare them to 2014+ maybe.

Have seen newer vehicles even with DPF removed not make any noticeable difference to power the limiting factor has always been something else, injectors for instance rather than DPF restricting gas flow.

    Many thanks
