What are your views on buying a 99 Mercedes CLK 320 Elegance 3.2 (Automatic) For £1200 with 77000 miles?
Are these good cars?

If there is no rust around the rear and front end then a very nice car indeed

There was only ever the rust in the rear wheel arches and a little in the front wings, if all good why not

I used to own a CLK320. It was great car although I searched around for the right car and it had an enviable service history and was meticulously maintained by the last owner.

I do remember having to change the disc, brakes and pads front and rear which set me back over £800 at the time which was cheap done by buying the parts and getting my mechanic to do the rest. I did buy uprated parts. I maintained it to the highest spec and when I sold it, the first person to view it, bought it!

It is fantastic car if you find a good one.

Good luck.

I own a 1999 CLK320. Mine is starting to rust around the arches, bootlid and bonnet, but apart from that it really is a great car, even now, 14 years in.

It's quiet and refined. 6 cylinders (and 8) are so much more civilised than the 4 cylinder models. The 3.2 litre of this generation is a great engine.
Bomb proof in fact.

Mine has done 83k, which is pretty low for a 14 year old car.

The best car I've ever owned. I'll fix the rust and keep her, as the 208 CLK is such a handsome car. A future classic imo.

I have a clk 320 sport and I have to agree they are great cars, and for a 3.2 V6 engine the fuel econamy is on par with some 2.0 ltr cars from the same era, As i get 37-38mpg on a run with it,I love it and next year I am looking to get myself a Proper W208 CLK 55 AMG :)

Changing the pads and discs is a very easy diy job so loads of money can be saved there. I had a good one a few years back and had 3 good years of trouble free driving but then the rust came so i had it sorted and sold, new owner was delighted and he still sends me the odd text to say she is still running fine and no problems.

So go for it you won't be dissapointed

My previous Merc was a 2000 CLK320 Elegance. Took it from 87.000 (dubious)kms to 275.000kms. Needed a recon gearbox at 225.000km. Otherwise no problems at all apart from normal servicing and acres of rust! The engine was an absolute dream - and apart from the above mentioned recon the 5 speed gearbox was far smoother than my current 7G.
