I saw one in Zurich Airport a couple of weeks ago. Its actually a lot better in the flesh than in the pictures. It may actually solve my current dilemma- if only they did a CLS500 shooting brake with 4matic!

I like the rear of it.... I am not a fan of the very flat (jaguar like) front grill ... Would have liked to have seen the front with a more sleek line...

It was the opposite for me at first, I liked the front, but not the back. Now I like all of it. I think it all flows and links together well.

I like it but for £63,000 (the price of a CLS SB 350cdi in Greenoaks Reading showroom) I would prefer the engine to be fully class competitive with the latest 3 litre diesels from BMW and Audi. Alternatively give us a 500.

.....

I was looking at one in a showroom yesterday.
I couldn't get past the thought that it was a completely useless estate car! Even dogs would have difficulty with it.
Nice looking yes. Shiny yes. Practical? Not on your Nelly.

Hate dogs and cats. Looks like its got room for a camera, tripod, tent and deck chair and a BBQ.

Good enough for me. The fact it cannot get dogs in is a bonus. Means the first owner or two won't have had the smelly things in my potential second hand CLS SB

Previously I owned an Audi q7 and R8. This purchase enables me to take the whole family, luggage etc and enjoy the performance on tap should I wish. So for me the complete package and practical for my needs.

If be afraid to use it as I normally use an estate car. Its too nice and well appointed in the tail for the sort of stuff I throw in the boot - car parts, springer spaniels, a greyhound, tools, trolley jacks......
For me, an estate needs to be easily cleaned and not too expensive to repair should something get scrapped or bashed - I guess the price tag would put it firmly out of the running for a hard working car

Slightly biased, but absolutely love my 350, the V6 has more than adequate pull and the boot is very useful, as is the middle 'naughty step' in the rear seating

Rear camera an absolute essential though as rear view is compromised by the styling, but hey, if I wanted that I'd have got a E class! Lane assist is helpful in this respect too.

Airmatic really soaks up the bumps transmitted by those 19" AMG Sport wheels and I wouldn't have got one without it.

Saw, but did not buy, a Hyacinth red one with cherry wood boot floor, ****** lovely, but that is one expensive option. Mine's Indium Grey Met, a lovely bronze colour.

Only thing I missed out on (it was an ex-publicity car so not spec'd by me) was a sunroof, which makes it a bit cave like. If MB designers incorporated a panoramic roof in the next evolution then it would be a perfect car imho.

Imho, the white looks simply awesome on the CLS 63 AMG SB, but a bit faddy on lesser models.

As for the silver shades, well, a bit non-descript for my tastes.

Having seen a few in the flesh before i bought, my top three colours were thulite/hyacinth? red met, indium grey met, then surprisingly, cuprite brown met - they all change hue slightly dependent on light.

im still trying to decide if i like the styling or not. I prefer saloons over hatchbacks and estates anyhow, when it comes to styling (there are a couple of exceptions, not made by MB or made now) BUT id still take a chance on the CLS SB. IF theres a manual diesel available, that is!

There's manual mode, Pete, where you can flap the paddles and lock the ranges to your heart's content
