I’d be careful about flying over the channel in light aircraft...If you pick me up in your plane I'll help buddy

What are the odds of 2 aircraft problems in the same yearI’d be careful about flying over the channel in light aircraft...
It feels slightly crisper , but it felt pretty good anyway at 95k . This is the 3rd ATF change .
The footballer who died in the light aircraft crash earlier in the year .?????????
I am also of that generation.wow thats a lot of work for an oil change
back in the day when I had mini's all you had to do was crack open the sump plug - let the oil out - replace sump plug - change filter and fill - 20 mins start to finish

You'd be alright Wighty, you've got your lucky underpants! The footballer who died in the light aircraft crash earlier in the year .
When I used to do Motorsport we could get the (usually red hot) gearbox out and a replacement back in inside 20 minutes on a rear wheel drive Toyota Starlet.. i used to do a lot of ford gearbox,s when younger,a lot younger.! i could have one out AND in in 45 min.
Me too.I am also of that generation.
Smack bang in the middle of the engine under the NVH cover for yours chap!If I'm keeping mine I do want to be able to do the servicing, but at the moment I'm happy to pay someone else. On previous cars I've done what I could, but never owned at auto before. I don't even know where the fuel filter is!!
Three of us did MK 2 Escort 18 minute service, gearbox change and no time penalties at the out time control. When I used to do Motorsport we could get the (usually red hot) gearbox out and a replacement back in inside 20 minutes on a rear wheel drive Toyota Starlet.
Watched the VW guys do a golf MK2 gearbox in the same length of time (and that's FWD!).
Needed regular changing to get rid of the swarf in the oil.Me too.
The oil change in a mini did everything in one go (engine, gearbox and diff)
Yep , the old girl is in very good condition . The ATF change was the third on that mileage of 95k . The last change was a full flush at 65k . The oil looked OK , it was a lot darker than the new stuff , but there was still an underlying redness .That's a very nice looking W211 you've got there, do you mind me asking how many miles were on the fluid and what sort of condition it was in?
Also, sorry to be cheeky, but you have the same drive train as me, what mpg do you get at 70 with the cruise set please? Thanks!
I'm still wondering if the fact mine's a sport with the wider rear tyres makes a difference, I think it does? Once I substituted one of the rears for the space saver and saw an immediate 5% or so improvement in consumption.Yep , the old girl is in very good condition . The sump did have greyish fine sludge in the pan and on the filter casing , but no metal particles on the sump magnets . Car gears shift very crisply.
I normally drive with cruise on at 77mph , and regularly drive to North Wales and back , the trip shows about 45mpg on that sort of motorway run . Spirited driving through the Welsh mountains drops that to 39/40mpg .
I always check the cars efficiency on the long 50mph sections of motorway by resetting the trip and mpg would be in the region of 55-60mpg over 10-20 miles at these speeds .
Aside from that , the car is nearly always in S mode . I use cheap supermarket fuel but add a mix of Cetane and 2T oil to each fill up .
