Mercedes A Class AMG Line 2016
Hi all..

I hope i am posting this in the write section.

I have a 2016 A Class which is due to be returned sometime later this year. I have a scruff and scratch on the wheel arches from someone hitting the car while it was parked on the main road.

Has anyone had a lease vehicle and carried out repairs. I contacted Mercedes in one city and was put through to the company that carries out their repairs, they sent me a bill for nearly £2,000. i then contacted Mercedes in another city who also use a specific company for all their repairs and he sent me a bill for £500. so major difference and could have been clearly ripped off. in the lease docs its states that repairs must be carried out by Mercedes specialist but the company themselves use 3rd parties.

Is it okay to use a 3rd party to carry out the work. I am of the view as long as the job is of good quality and you cannot realise a repair has been done then its all good. i am therefore thinking of ringing a third party like chips away who probably charge even less to fix the repairs. has anyone had any issues such as these.

also for lease vehicles - can you only service the cars from Mercedes directly or can they be done by a 3rd party.

many thanks

Kamal

3rd party would be fine if its done to a good standard- after all very few dealerships have their own paint shops anymore, they all use 3rd parties.
I think your servicing must be done by Mercedes though

Depends on your lease co I think. MB Finance don't stipulate where repairs are done, just that they are "of an acceptable standard". The advantage of an MB approved body shop (and, as JL says above, they are all 3rd party anyway) is that MB Finance can't argue that it is not of an acceptable standard.

Some years ago, I had a scratch on a door repaired by my local body shop and the BCA inspector claimed the paint was flat and wanted to charge me about £500. I appealed to MB Finance and they readily agreed that since I had an invoice from a professional body shop (ie it was not a DIY repair) they were quite happy. Major body repairs after a rear end shunt repaired under insurance at an MB body shop were not even mentioned.

I think BCA at that time assessed every car to virtually new standards but MB would moderate those more realistically, especially if you appealed. Last time I returned a car (about 3 years ago) the inspector told me that they had been asked to back off because they were upsetting customers to the point where they were not coming back to MB for their next car.

Regarding servicing, MB "recommend that your service is carried out by a MB Retailer as this helps to avoid or reduce any additional fees....". Not sure where that one leads, but if returning at 3 years old then car would need to be dealer serviced to maintain the warranty anyway? Or is that now optional too?
