Good day David here, I do hope that someone can help, I am going to remove the ignition switch (eis) tomorrow morning as its doing the usual turn the key lights on no start and turn again and starts, my question is should I disconnect the battery before removing the switch which I am sending away for refurbishment thanks David.

Technically yes, but it won’t be a problem if you don’t disconnect the battery. My test for these when they won’t recognise the key is to pull all the plugs off the back, count ten and then reconnect. If it then sees the key and behaves itself the EIS is definitely the problem

Thanks for the fast reply, I will give it a go before removal , as wanted to take it to auto electrician , but they only wanted to replace the complete switch with new , which I am sure you know its a road to £500 plus, If I may ask do you have a preference for a diagnostic tool up to £350.00 as I don't want to buy a low cost OBD scanner which does not read all codes and works on older cars, thanks David.

I don’t know much about cheap scanners sadly. I have a Star machine and a SnapOn Modus that I use for everything else. The Modus is pretty good, but quickly becomes an outdated brick if you don’t spend £800 a year on the software updates. For clarity, I own a car repair business ;)

Thanks for the reply and frankness, I appreciate the fact that you have your own car repair business and are not keen on cheaper options thanks regards David.
