I know Chrysler has had Mercedes engine's, notably the 300c and Crossfire. But has Mercedes had parts from other cars? The reason I ask is, i posted a pic of my car on my old forum,
Club Lupo, to which I got, it's a Chrysler, it's a Renault, it's a Nissan and even it's a Dodge . Has Mercedes got any of the above parts, particularly Renault or Nissan , don't get me wrong I'm not bothered, just curious. :)

Loads of manufacturers team up with each other. The Merc X Class is a badge engineered Nissan Navara and the Twingo & Smart For4 are based on each other.

Chrysler & Dodge are both owned by Fiat ...

My wife's B Class has a Renault engine.

All Merc CVT boxes are Nissan. Most small Merc Diesel engines are Nissan (160 engines), many smaller petrols are Renault.

I must admit Renault did make a decent 1,300 cc turbo engine in the 80’s - Alan Jones used to have one IIRC :)

The X Class isn’t straight badge engineered unfortunately (oh were it so!) It takes the Navarra platform, but has a completely new body, bed, cab, doors, hood, interior & lighting pack. It’s just different enough to properly f*** up the production line.

It’s a fairly simple equation, the cost of development of an engine vs the recovery against that cost against the (perhaps) higher unit cost of buying someone else’s engine ready assembled. For smaller engines it tends not to be worth it to develop one’s own now.

When I bought the ML back in 2012 the salesman was adamant it had the Chrysler 2.7 diesel engine, just wondering was it developed jointly or is it a Mercedes engine ?

I've read somewhere on this very forum that that is not correct for the A Class W169 at least.

Theres a lot of ssangyong mussos here badged "powered by mercedes". I heard somewhere they use om603 based engines and gearboxes from the w124 era. Not sure if its true but if so probably explains why theyre very popular amongst farmers (cheap utilitatian and reliable).
