Hi All,

Having recently purchased our first MB, the B service is due in the next couple of weeks. Can't find local garages that specialise in MB so have to get the car serviced in London, where the cheapest quote is around £400.

Just wondered if anyone knew of any garages in the East Sussex area, or can someone please advise if it really necessary to have the car serviced by an MB specialist (I know it would negate the bodywork warranty) - our local garage (who we have used previously and seem to be very good) say they will carry out the same service for £160 - this is very tempting, but wondered if this is a good idea?

Depends which model you've got. I use a guy in Weybridge Surrey who charges 50 quid p/h as opposed to 110 at Woking motors. He knows the cars inside out and has never ripped me off. He owns and restored a 600 Pullman which speaks volumes IMO. He generally works on the older stuff, though has changed 3 gearboxes recently on the new E class. Yikes!

With newer MB's access to the correct diagnostic equipment and MB bulletins is a must. A good knowledge of MB cars is important as there can be lots of big £££ problems if correct procedures are not followed. I would be very wary of a 'general' garage working on my Mercedes.
I would have a search around for an independant MB specialist as these are usually MB trained techs who have setup on their own. Pls have a search on this forum as this is quite a common request.
