I missed that one hopefully will be better examples in future,i doubt if i will better that one though??!!:(

I think you may have not been too unlucky in missing that one. 140,000 is a long way and there would have been inevitable wear and tear. AMG cars are super, but cost that bit more to run.

As others have said, be patient. There are lots about and in the current financial climate, and at this time of year, prices should be as suitable for you as they are likely to be.

I sometimes stop off at used car lots well out of town in the Midlands - I remember a really good one on the secondary road from Cheltenham to Gloucester, near the C&G MB Dealership - but there are many others.

I saw two 129s there which were mid 1990s, one owner, full service history, modest mileage, but no one rushing to buy. Either of these cars would have made a good daily driver, far less a cherished buy.

Autotrader and other search engines should help pinpoint the prospects. There is lots of info on the forum re choosing a 129. As others will tell you, unless you intend buying one, don't try a 500. They are seamless and addictive!

Good hunting - keep us posted.

I bought my 320 SL in March this year as a second car/investment. Every time I drive it, which isn't very often, I think it is money well invested instead of decaying in the bank. Took me a while to find a nice low mileage car but well worth the wait. Regards Barry

I would always go to a 1995 car if you can with the electronic ignition with coil packs

How about mileage,should be a figure(low as possible),but realistically??

It did not do me much good in buying a car with 14k on the clock. 50k is a good ball mark that is something like 5k miles per year

I think you can stretch to 70K with 1995 car...that's still below par figure for age but be sure to check that the Miles tally with service history or MOTs etc. Its pointless to buy car in accordance to mileage unless you can confirm the mileage

Good point Malcolm. Ultra low mileage cars can have problems of under-use (although I appreciate that your car was only 2.5 years old).

I bought a 1994 car in 2005 with 44,000. It felt quite stiff and hesitant at first, but an "Italian tune up" once fully warmed up made a big difference. I do about 4,000 per year and that keeps it going nicely. Less and you may find it gets lazy.

You will also find that people ask a premium for very low mileage. If you then use the car, you erode the premium. If you don't use the car, what's the point of having it? Sensible ideal mileage might be optimum @ 4,000 per year throughout its life, with servicing on time intervals rather than mileage.
