Hi,

My dad's recently brought a 2005 E 220d last August. He's had no issues with it so far other than some suspension related stuff but during the cold weather we've recently had, the car won't start or turnover. In the warmer weather it starts fine with no issues and has worked fine for the last week or so.

I would appreciate it if someone could recommend anyone with the Mercedes Star software. We're based in Milton Keynes and the local MB non dealer garage has a three week waiting list.

Thank you.

I don’t think any diyer has star.

Whilst I feel your pain, consider looking into a mobile MB specialist or other neighbouring specialist. If you are lucky you will find someone who is willing to come out to you and despite all the crap most garages spout, ones who are decent enough will come out and at least do a code read and try to help, perhaps even override the car to start if possible to allow it to be driven to the garage.

If your car has air suspension be wary of being forced to have it towed if the suspension drops. When my w221 failed to start several weeks ago for 1.5weeks i arranged recovery and when the chap arrived he said more damage is likely to be done.

Sounds like battery needs changing. Cold weather will highlight a weak battery.

easy test is a voltmeter first thing in the morning before a start.

You don't need STAR, you need a new battery. Considerably less investment.

Hi, thank you for the replies. My apologies as I should have mentioned in the original post that we've had both the batteries tested and both passed. Another mechanic advised he was adamant that it was a battery fault so we changed both batteries on his advice just to be sure but the issue still remains.

The reason I asked about the Star software is that he had a few diagnostic machines but non of them displayed any errors.

Thank you once again.

Thanks for your reply. The suspension wasn't even something I thought about so thanks for the heads up.
Thankfully the car starts now the weather is a little warmer so that's a bonus but yes, I'll look into mobile guys with the Star software.

Thanks again.

I'll assume by non start that you mean that the ignition will turn, you have full dash lights but it wont crank?

If so, common problems would be relay K in the front SAM or jamming starter motor. But I would start by looking at the purple wire in the fuse box when it doesnt start, if you have a volt meter, check to see if you have 12v there, if not, then its a problem at the fuse box end, likely the relay. If you have 12v there, all of the drive authority path is ok and its the starter motor jamming.
