MB C Class 180k Se Auto Avtg Saloon.
Hello.

At approximately 15:00 hours today I phone the MB dealer for a price on:

W203, 07 plate, 180k se Avtg, rear bumper, passenger side chrome metal strip which is about 16 inches long and approx 3/8" wide.

Price was 98:50p plus VAT.

I got my first Merc in 2004, a w203 and 2nd n sept last year.

I have driven, owned a car since the age of 17, ie, approx 32 years.

A Mercedes 'B' service is relatively expensive when compared to an Audi A4 v the w203 180- but this is robbery

Yes Mercedes have greatly increased their prices over the past few years, but you should try pricing the part in the euro zone , there the prices are absolutely scandalous

What with your wheels as well Malcolm, you should break the SL for spares and use the proceeds to buy an SLR! ;)

I've been encountering the same eye-popping prices in the course of trying to restore my 230CE. I asked for a quote on the rubber seal behind the B pillar chrome strike plate. He came back with £73 + VAT. Upon closer questioning, he had got the price of the strike plate by mistake. My relief soon turned to horror when the price for the seal was revealed to be also £70-ish, because you can't just buy the flat part, you have to buy the strip that joins with it as well.

I wonder though whether the high prices are because of the very accurate tolerances to which they make the spares, not to mention the overall quality. I have found so far that if I buy a part for my car, it will fit perfectly - no fumbles, no cursing, no DIY adjustments, in contrast to say, restoring an MG (so I'm told). I'm sure there is also a cost associated with the very comprehensive stock of parts they keep for all their cars past and present, any of which is deliverable within 2-7 days. Add to that the undoubted mark-up for the Mercedes brand and suddenly, value for money begins to have a whole new meaning?

While we on the subject.... Does anyone know if we can source our body panels or bumber parts from ECP or do they need to be genuine MB?

I need bottom section of my front bumper but I am not able to find it anywhere.

Even a new front bumper would be ok too as I can take the bottom part off if need be.

Any Ideas?

These can be purchased and the damaged ones can be repaired

Well mine is cracked from bottom and has scrape marks from speed bumps. I was thinking of puting a new unit on and respaying the whole front bumper. Bumper clip was broken from right but Colin fixed it last week with a metal plate and a screw so I no longer need to replace the whole bumper.

Can these be purchased from ECP? I imagine they will be good fit with not too much alterations?

The bumper parts can all be repaired with ease, with a split you just put a metal plate on the rear and screw it down with 2 countersunk screws and fill and sand, when painted they are so low down that you cannot see it, and the cost on doing this is minimal

W203, 07 plate, 180k se Avtg, rear bumper, passenger side chrome metal strip which is about 16 inches long and approx 3/8" wide.

What's wrong with it? Mine bubbled and they changed it under warranty without query.

Hi,
So are you saying they wanted £180, for the rear bumper, and a passenger side chrome metal trim?
I, ll be honest if this is the case, it is very very cheap, you would,nt get a Mondeo or Astra bumper for that new. I wish my C43 AMG front bumper was as cheap over £600!, and i got to buy a new one :(
Though I do agree with the sentiments of this thread, having had my W202's for up to 8 years I have seen some items go up in price by 3 times the amount.
Keys for example, bought mine in 2002-3 (flip out type) less than £80, now reported at £200ish, auto-dimming rear view mirror, 2001 price £130ish now about £400, it does make me wonder how they determine the price increases year to year, month to month.

Not the bumper Andy, just the chrome strip

That's for the whole bumper insert in colour with the chrome strip.

If you just need the chrome strip you can get the in primer version - A20388527219999 for £55 inc vat, still a lot of money for a chrome strip, but better than £115 or so.

The lower skirts are about £100 or so from MB, and remember there are 2 types the early textured black one, and the later smooth colour coded one.
