Yes that’s a small gauze filter inside (the grey bit) I believe they all have them.

Star are you sure ? I can get one before i fit the new injectors As most of these look as if they have but are only a brass coupling with a cone inside for the flow of fuel . I would think this is a must fit part .I will have to remove it and the best time is when i fit the new inljector and seals .

One fitting is straight thru and the other has the gauze/filter in it. 3E5290BF-990F-400E-AA7B-DC7FB54097DF.jpeg C14E1D0C-2732-4A72-AB3B-34C29A675B8C.jpeg

Is there anyone that can settle this for good 100% or is it just a filter or just a brass fitting

I suspect it's one of those some cars do some cars don't things.
I can't see that it will do much as by the time the fuel gets there it's been through the main fuel filter.

The filter/gauze is part of the fitting and not available separately.

I know that Star but i looked every parts sight i can find and i am not 100%sure.
Two years back i went down the same path and even then i was not sure like everyone .And i gave up looking in the end.
Only other guy that might know is Rob at threpointedparts he has a ebay web site and i have had parts from him before .But now the quickest is to pull mine out and look .I would like to get one in there if its not an in line filter at the moment.

Providing they both use K/KE Jetronic it makes sense they both have this filter.

However, that’s just my opinion, I never changed it on my M103 powered W124

Unlike in the video use the ring end of the spanner if you can as it has much less chance of slipping off the brass fitting.

LostKiwi Thanks for that .But that might not be possible if the inlet pipe is in place .Or i could use the split ring i do have a set of these they are like the ones used on the brake pipes nuts. The large size might hinder me though .I do have large rings i can cut a slot in to get it over the inlet fuel pipe. Post picture of this as i go along removing the brass fuel flow diverter of filter we will see ..

I was thinking more about when the fuel pipe is off when unscrewing from the housing.

Yes why did i think it had one nut on it it .When its got a smaller brass nut that i have to remove first with the pie then it will give me a good purchase with a ring .Good one there LostKiwi you just saved the life of a good ring spanner . Another thing while we are working on the injection system. To remove the injectors is it best to first remove the fuel relay ,open filler for the fuel tank to vent presure spin the engine over to let fuel return to the tank and then comence work on the injectors and the metering filter .

Replaced this filter on my M103.983 a couple of yrs ago. Febi has available replacement. Will improve fuel pressure slightly when put in a fresh one. Very few M103 owners are aware of this filter IMO. Be careful not to cross thread. Distributor housings threads can be corroded due to brass/alu electrolythical reactions from the old filter and the new can be hard to fit on. Make sure threads are entering properly. And be careful with metal particals entering distributor while "rethreading" the potentially corroded threads when screwing the new filter on. (Did that make sense?) Screw new filter half way in and the take off again and check for shavings. If you find any, vacuum off and go bit by bit
