The article is sadly free of any actual facts such as the questions asked and percentage of each answer in the survey it talks about. But what it does say is that Mercedes owners ranked their "customer satisfaction" lower than owners of other brands. That could be because, having paid more for a higher-spec car, their expectations are higher, so if they only get the same level of service they're less satisfied.

I think the main problem is one of expectation.

If you buy a Fiat and bits begin to fall off then you put it down to Italian build quality. If bits don't fall off you're plesantly supprised and sing Fiats praises.

If you buy a MB you expect German engineering and don't expect bits to fall off but if/when they do you'll complain to anyone who will listen.

Given that MB changed direction in the mid-nineties from focussing on build quality to earning revenue, MB's aren't built the way they used to be.

I don't think they're "worse" than Fiats - I just think there not "as better" than they were before.

Plus the matter isn't helped by the attitude/competence of most MB dealerships.

If you want to continue feeling superior to Fiat Drivers, buy and old one and get a good independent garage to look after it.....
