Hi there Grimes.

When you say juddering and wrong gear I awssume that you mean to high a gear, if correct check the following.

Has anyone at any time done anything to the Diff, could it have had a higher ratio Diff installed ( higher gearing, more fuel economy) was a common trick on some of the older B.M.C / Commer / Bedford camper vans to obtain higher gearing for above reasons

thanks for the suggestion some mechanics have said its a fuel problem others that its the gearbox crown bearing and then others have said that the engine is fine and that it must be drawing in air somwhere, but the engine purrs when it is ticking over.I have had it in numerous garages but to no avail. thanks for your comments.

Is this behaviour present if you rev up the engine whilst stationary, or only under load (ie driving it)? Does it also happen at tickover?

Could be due to air in the fuel system - do you have a section of the fuel line which is transparent (and after the filter)? Then you could visually check. It is possible for the fuel filter to rust and this would cause an air leak into the fuel system.

:) thankyou for your reply. one mechanic has suggested this could be the problem while others have leaned more towards a gearbox problem though saying this i have just had the clutch replaced as i mentioned earlier and they said the gearbox was fine. it is costing me a fortune trying to find the fault last bill £500 what do you think
