Hi guys i just join, and would like to say " What an exellent setup you guys have here ."

I brought a 220 CDi coupe about a year ago 03 plate 40,000ish miles, and the mileage is terrible. I only get about 25 miles to the gallon. I live in outer London so all the driving I do is in and around town.

Is this normal? ?

that does seem low, but heavy traffic does play its part - also if you are doing lots of short runs, particularly in cold weather, this will make consumption nosedive .

Wjat mpg do you get on a long motorway run, averaging 60-70 mph?

if you know a friendly MOT station, they will be able to measure the emmissons for a token cost (agree up front!) that will be cheaper than most garages, but I think it is down to the journeys you do. Like you I get 45-50 on the motorway, but see nearer 25 mpg around town - and even less when the engine is cold. Diesels to take longer to warm up, and till they do, you will see increased mpg. Fact of life, I am afraid. PS - when was the last time your air cleaner was changed?
