Can anyone please give me some advise on how to fix or in the short term disable it.

When turning the switch on the seat heats up quickly but then burning smell.

Just noticed damage to the leather.

Thank you

The seats may have its own fuse. Have a look and if it does, then you can remove it.

dont turn the seat heater on is the short answer, the seat heaters become faulty on these cars and warrant replacement

The covering has to be taken off the seat to get to it, and I think that they are sewn onto the covering, but look to be separate on the ML.

If you will be doing this yourself I can give you the how to papers

Malcolm thanks for that.

I think that it would be a good job just to disable the heater.

This otherwise sounds like an expensive repair.

Malcolm I would be very interested in any info that you could supply on fitting a heated seat pad that i have seen on ebay. Do you know what other parts and bits i would need for the complete fitting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ian

Hi
I read with interest the heated seat thread. Is there any chance of sending me the how to instructions please? I have the same problem. i.e the seat has hot spots and smells of burning. I also noticed a little burn hole on the side pads (seat section , not back upright section) which I find strange as I imagined the heated pad to only be in the middle of the lower seat section. Any info diags etc would be appreciated. I am also going ot remove the fuse as its my wife's car and despite telling her not to use the seats , she seems to keep trying!
