ML-270 OBDII Compliant ??

I have an 02 ML-270 CDI, and was looking to buy a fault code reader, but I am being told that because it is pre 2004, it may not be OBDII compliant. Can anyone confirm if it is or not ??

it will be Obd11 look under the dash under steering whell for the socket

Many thanks. I had looked there before, it was just that the agent for the scanners was telling me it may not work because it was pre 2004.
