hi,i am new to the site so a big hello to you all,
at presant i drive a pajero(shogun),it is a 2.8 diesal, i am looking at buying a ML either a 270 or a 320,can any one tell me what there cars are doing to the gallon,i would be buying a car around the 1999/2000 age as it will be used as a second car as i tow a 26ft touring caravan a few times a year and only really use my presant 4x4 at weekends due to having a second diesal car for work
allthough the pajero does not get much use,it still only does around 14 - 18 to the gallon, around town and on a run, this is right for the model as i checked this before i bought the car 2 years ago(factory figs are only 20 mpg) still amazing that you get owners stating they get 35+mpg and mine must hqve a majar fualt(i have a BTEC in motor vehicle technology!)
i drove a ml270 today i did not think the power was much differant to the pajero!,or could it just be the car i drove!!
i have looked at some of the car buying books, they state 27 mpg for the diesal and 20 -22 for the petrol, if ther is not alot in it the petrol ones are alot cheaper to buy and theres lots to choose from
your advice, fuel figs etc on these cars would be very welcome
cheers
mark;)

Plenty of info on this forum regarding ML's, have a search, literally hundreds of threads. Mine does 24/25 mpg actual not worked out on an onboard computer no matter if I drive like a vicars wife on a Sunday outing or wearing my heavy divers boots.

Be careful buying a pre facelift model as these are cheaper but can be troublesome, if you can afford a face lift model, easily identifiable by indicators built in the mirrors and fog lampos built in the front bumper, that is a much safer bet, diesel cars do command an higher price and they pull like a freight train, very pleased with mine even after 10 months of ownership.

Hello,

Agree with Andy Wr if you can stretch to a face lifted one (indicators in mirrors). In the long run you will probably be happier.

I'm getting 25mpg overall out of my ML350 (which is a 3.7). on a recent trip to france it dropped to 21 for a few tanks but I was bobing on.....It did say the speed limit was 130....

If you do few miles I'm sure as long as you check the car out and with any help needed on here, it will be ok. All cars have their problems.

PS, I'm due in the lakes with ours and the van in September will report back on the fuel then..

Hi - I was in the same situation as you about 3 months ago.

I looked at around 5 different cars 270 and 320, in the end I got the 320, because as you say they are cheaper, you get a younger car with more gadgets for the same money.

Fuel wise, around 23 MTG

I live in the Midlands and recently took all of my family with the car loaded
to the roof down to Devon, it was a dream !!

I think you'll find the 320 a little more refined engine wise, but as your pulling
a caravan it's the torque your after so go for the 270.

If you can, stretch to the facelift version as said.

Happy hunting

HI Rob,i have had a qiuck look at the face lift ones on internet, price wise it would be cheaper to buy a ex fleet car from the fleet auctions(this is where my work car came from, can not go wrong as the garages buy them from here and put them on forcourts as one owner cars!)the problem i have is that the car sits out side the house all week not in use, this is why i was looking at the early models,i always pay cash for cars,so would sooner have a wedge in the bank than sat outside on the road(my missis says im just tight!!),i only tow the van around 4 times a year, expense holidays really when worked out but as i stay in hotels regurly as part of my job, there the last place i want to be when on holiday
cheers

Hello,

There are some cheap..ish white ones about, with some non merc extras such as blue flashing lights...

Seriously though (and there still are ex police ones) I would think a ML320 would be fine given you will be doing low miles and you should be able to get a newer car than the ML270 equivalent.

cheers
