I live near Turriff in Aberdeenshire.
Your Mercedes
ML 270 Cdi and S type Jag 2.7 Diesel Sport Saloon, and now a VW diesel GT golf
I have bought a ML 270 cdi auto triptronic, and like it a lot.
While pulling my trailer about 1 ton in total at 5o mph the other day when I got home there was oil on the front of the trailer.
I examined the car and found the auto box had transmission oil dripping from the offside front corner of the auto box sump area.
I have had the car three weeks and it has not done this before.
I washed the underside and have done 200 miles with no trailer and it seems ok again.
The problem only seems to be present when towing.
I bought this car to tow my caravan so any help or ideas would be appreciated.

sounds like the pilot bush is leaking, very common on that gearbox, poss the extra heat when towing has shown it!!! easy fix and very cheap!!!!

This is quite a common fault and MB are aware of it, make sure you fit the modified seals, if the ones that come out are white then the modified ones are black, a bit harder. Whatch when you pull it out as oil will leak, best bet is to drain 2 ltrs off and put this amount back in.
