Just a thought - the fact that you changed the battery may have resulted in the ignition sysytem needing reprogramming to read your key fob. It sounds as if the anti-theft immobilisation gizmo has kicked in.

Is this an extension of the key problem that happened earlier

See what I have on this

Is this an extension of the key problem that happened earlier

See what I have on this
I'm back key problem was a long time ago, not had any trouble with the key since then, I have two keys & had them both with me both do everything but turn engine over. I had a problem at dinner when I was parked pointing down on a slope auto in park weight of motor on the auto box & it wouldn't turn over so I rolled a few mtrs onto the flat so there wasn't any load on the auto box it turned over & started (that could be just a coincidence) also been having a delay with the heater fan it takes a couple of Min's to start blowing then runs on after the ignition is turned off the its OK thought the new battery would have sorted it out
Don't know much about the anti-theft immobilization Cozmo
I tried a live feed to the solenoid but only got clicking around the clove box area going can't really see what I was doing. going to take a jack, tools, jump leads, maybe remove the starter tomorrow & test it

Thanks for the help so far Kevin

PS I'm of to bed now back at 0600

The ML reports ERROR in the display if there is something wrong with the ECU/Authorisation to drive. Ive noticed over time here that a lot of people have crank sensor or cdi rail faults which have left the engine dead. When were the kyfob batteries replaced, have you tried a different key? It could well be time to get fault codes read unless Malcolm has got something on his system.

Thanks Phil for this

The ML reports ERROR in the display if there is something wrong with the ECU/Authorisation to drive.
There isn't any warning lights showing on the dash

Ive noticed over time here that a lot of people have crank sensor
I have a crank sensor with me but if I remember correctly with this disconnected there is cranking but no starting

or cdi rail faults which have left the engine dead. Don't know about this one I'll try disconnection & reconnect

When were the key fob batteries replaced, have you tried a different key?
I have two key with me no joy don't know the battery procedure

It could well be time to get fault codes read unless Malcolm has got something on his system.

Alarm immobilizer seems OK tried opening door without actually opening a door left it for a couple of mins and it locked it self back up

This sounds like the engine earth strap broken, from under the car next to the steering U/J, pig to find and get to but common fault, quick way to test is a jump lead from battery neg to engine block!

Funny that we have had many faults like this and suspect engine earth straps.

I will wait till Kevin post back

I wasnt exact in description, the 'Start Error' appears in the mileometer display with no other warning lights coming on. You dont get any clicks or anything, whole car appears normal, but engine (including starter) completely dead with just the message.

Hopefully the earth strap is the fault, not the ECU or MBSS.

Hi and thanks to every one involved it was exactally as stated above
I made that earth strap good when I did the engine mount so I didnt think it was that but I had the engine running with jump leads as an earth and could see sparking when it went dark the strap had sheared clean off

Thanks Kevin
