Hi Everyone,

I have a 2001 ML270 CDi ( W163 ) with a ticking tensioner pulley and a visually cracked V Belt. Before the pulley seizes or the belt snaps I want to change them both.

From reading around on the Forum I think it is not too dificult a job and is best tackled from underneath where nothing has to be removed. The belt and the tensioner can be replaced with the fan, radiator and intercooler all in place. Have I understood this correctly, nothing has to be removed from the front of the car at all ?

My main question is where can I buy these parts from ? Obviously I can buy them from MB but I wondered if anyone did any non genuine parts in the UK ? Has anyone any idea what price the Pulley and Belt will cost ? Any information you guys can supply ( phone numbers, part numbers, web links etc ) will be gratefully received.

Thank you

Jon

Not worth trying to source the parts cheaper.......Get them from the main agent!, they are relatively inexpensive and once fitted will probably outlast your ownership of the car.

What do you mean by ticking? If it's starting to jump about I would have thought it could be the alty clutch starting to seize.

Thanks for the replys.

I am going to change the alternator clutch when I change the Belt and Pulley anyway, so hopefully the noise will go away.

The noise sounds like a broken bearing where all the balls gather together and then run off and click as it hits the group again. This is what I am guessing anyway.

Does anyone know part numbers and prices of tensioner and belt from MB if alternatives are not advised ?

Thank you

Jon
