Hi All,

I'm having issues with my ML command unit not reading the sat Nav disk, its intermittent, it does sometimes, it doesn't others.

I've popped into my local Mercedes dealership, they advised they would need to plug it into diagnostics etc and that they would just replace the full unit if they found anything wrong with it.

With the car being older I'm not that fussed for paying out to replace everything.

I've read resetting the unit, via the fuse box, may sort this, I'm kean to give it ago.

However, I cant find any instructions on where/how to do this.

I think theres 3 fuse boxes in the car, under the bonnet, around the passenger glove box area and one in the boot (This is from Googling). I also think the fuse I need is in the passenger glove box area. I have my service manual/handbook etc, but cant find a fuse diagram or a location in this.

Can someone talk me through it? Finding the fuse box first....

Thanks in advance,

Neal

The unit reading the disc and not reading it at other times point to a the laser head, they can be replaced, it could just need a clean.

If your nav disc is a copy it'll do this. Have a look to see if it's an original.

Hi,

Yes, there was a copied newer disc in the nav. My boss had been using one in it before he gave me the car.

Whats the solution? Will a lense cleaning disc sort it? I'll revert back to the older, original disc.

Lens cleaning does not do much on these things, the disc will remove hairs and thing but not really clean the laser lens.

Do try the original disc before anything..

Try a wet cleaning disc if you can get one, other than that a new pickup required.

Your fuse map is in the boot with the spare wheel.

Easiest way to reset everything is to take the earth lead off the battery wait a few minutes and put it back on again.

The lens cleaning kits that use a small amount of cleaning fluid on the brushes work much better than the dry ones. try this first along with a genuine disk.

Hi all,

Shaggy, thanks for the offer. I'm only in Gildersome, but, I have an genuine 2009 disc. Do you want to part with the 2011/12 disc, did you say you've updated yours to a newer one?

I'm going to pop the earth cable first, I have a wet cleaning kit on the way from Ebay, that's phase 2. If it works, winner!

I will updated when I have done the above.

My boss did mention to me he's had the copied disc in for over 2 years! I've noticed on the copy there is a really bad mark running all the way around it. in a perfect circle, as if the CD drive on the Command unit has done it?

Thanks again everyone for the help.

Powering down will not help this fault, its a disc reading fault and nothing else.
