I'm looking for opinons from owners users of this range. At 6ft 6in getting in and out of the E-Class is sometimes difficult i.e. back twinges, so I thought that next vehicle would have to be one that I step up into. I know that there are lots of 4 X 4 available and will be looking into as many models as I can before arranging test drives, preferably for a couple of days not just an hour behind the wheel of a strange car. any genuine opinions or sources of good information welcome.

Depends on your budget, are we talking about the W163 or the newer W164?

I had a W163 270cdi which was a joy to drive especially on motorways.
Very comfortable, built for fat yanks and very easy to slide in and out of.

cruising on the motorway at 70mph i would get late 30s mpg.

inspiration model is the one to go for with extra kit and nicer alloys.

I'm 6'3 and both ML's are ideal, albeit try the seats as the W163 are better. If you go for a W163 try to get as new as possible to avoid many of the costly gotcha's but IMHO, the w164 is very nice, but the W163 is not that far behind it, irrespective of the gutter press or bar tendy know alls.

Its personal choice, but as someone who has owned both, owns a C220 (difficult to get in and out compared to an ML) and driven many an E class, for tall people the ML is a better choice, just beware the running costs are a little higher.

I wouldn't want to discredit either w163 or w164, both excellent in their own way, try both and decide yourself, its all about personal opinion.
