Guy's, Malcolm,

Noticed tonight and come to think of it over the past month or so the temp never gets up to the 80 mark when the car is being driven, in fact tonight it was around the 60 mark most of the time. It only reached the 80 mark climbing up hill.
Is this a sign that the thermostat is on its way out? If so how easy is it to change on the ML 270 CDi engine?
Any job sheets for this Malcolm?
Its always been bang on the 80 mark for the past 2 years and only climbs over this when towing the trailer up hills.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Not sure about the ML Mark but most modern diesels should run at 92c so yours could have been running cold for a while.

My S-Class diesel temp gauge sat bang in the middle at 80c and I thought all was well until it hit a very long steep incline and the gauge rose to just over the 90c mark, at this point I thought something was wrong and spoke to the mechanic who said it was running too cold at 80c. A new thermostat was fitted and it now sits at just over the 90c mark and never moves
